A simple guide to GST-compliant billing for small shops
Most small business owners don't need to become tax experts — but a few basics on every invoice can save a lot of trouble later.
What a GST-compliant invoice needs:
- Your business name, address and GSTIN
- A unique, sequential invoice number and date
- The customer's details (and GSTIN, if they're a registered business)
- A clear description of goods or services, quantity and rate
- The applicable GST rate and amount, shown separately from the base price
- The total amount, in figures and ideally in words for high-value bills
The most common mistake is bundling GST into the price without showing it separately — this makes it harder to reconcile at filing time and can raise questions during an audit. Software that auto-generates GST-ready invoices removes most of this risk, since the format and the maths are handled for you on every single bill.

How much are UPI fees really costing your business?
A "small" 1–2% fee on UPI collections sounds negligible until you look at it over a full year.
Take a business collecting ₹5,00,000 a month through UPI. At a 2% fee, that's ₹10,000 a month — or ₹1,20,000 a year — quietly deducted before it ever reaches your account. For a business collecting ₹10,00,000 a month, that jumps to ₹2,40,000 a year.
That money doesn't buy you anything extra — it's simply the cost of accepting the payment method most of your customers already prefer. Billing software that includes a zero-fee UPI engine means every rupee your customer pays ends up in your account, with nothing quietly skimmed off the top.

Choosing POS software: 7 questions to ask before you buy
Most POS software looks similar in a demo. The differences show up months later, once you're relying on it every day. Before signing up, ask:
- What happens if the internet goes down? Cloud-only systems can stop billing entirely during an outage.
- Are there transaction fees on UPI or card payments? Ask for the exact percentage, in writing.
- How long does setup actually take? "A few days" often means a week or more in practice.
- Is staff training included, or billed separately?
- Was this built for my industry, or adapted from a generic template? A jeweller and a supermarket need very different tools.
- What does support look like after the sale? Ask how issues get resolved once you're not a "new lead" anymore.
- Can I see real numbers from a similar business? Vague testimonials are a signal to ask for specifics.
A software provider that answers these clearly, without hedging, is usually a safer long-term bet than one with the flashiest demo.
